Most voters that I speak with are in agreement that our state legislators need to by refreshed(recycled) and allowed to be reintroduced to life outside of public office. To have a democracy and representative form of government we will need to stop the career politicians from getting their claws into their elected position. As demostrated recently by the Washington State legislature, the current senators and representatives are NOT representing the people.
To assist in correcting the state of the state, I present the Graceful Exit Term Limit. The trick is to get the reps and senators to actually vote for this, so what I propose is the following:
1) any rep or senator currently in office during the vote will be allowed to run 1 more term after their current term, regardless of how many previous terms. So this would allow for a politician to not fear for their livelihood if they are actually relying on the paycheck. They can look good by voting for what the people need and want, and be secure in knowing they have a little more time to put their resume together.
2) reps will have a term limit of 2 terms and senators 2 terms
I think this would make the legislators look really good. It would also allow for new and fresh ideas to get in. It is fairly obvious that our state needs some new ideas, but the same old people keep getting elected. It is time for REAL hope and change in Washington State

Washington State Legislators Don't Listen
So...now they want to suspend the Initiative 960 requirements. Voters have been very clear about how they feel. We don't want more taxes unless 2/3 of the legislature agrees. We want to be represented...we aren't being represented.
If you don't listen to the people that voted for you...then they may not vote for you next time.
I hope everyone thinks twice before re-electing the same folks into office.
Don't forget those term limits, too.

Who is running against Lynn Kessler?
Well folks from Washington's 24th district? Who is going to run against Rep. Lynn Kessler? I'm just curious. If you know, please comment. I'm hoping someone steps up.
What I think this state needs is term limits. 3 terms for reps and 2 terms for senators.
Good luck, right? I have some ideas about how to phrase the change so that the legislators will consider voting for it.
Politics shouldn't be considered a career, but a duty and a privilege. Do you suppose it is a form of arrogance to stay in office longer than 2 or 3 terms? If this government is to truly be led by people that REPRESENT the voters...why would the same people stay in office for so long? Wouldn't they want to let someone else serve? Why do the political parties encourage such extended candidacies? Do you think that 18 years is long enough?
I'm not necessarily upset over what Rep. Kessler has accomplished...I'm just from this district and am concerned for our state AND our country. I think all voters should consider term limits for the state of Washington.
